Our Beliefs

We believe the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation. We believe that the Bible is Holy and the scriptures of the Old and New Testament is the inspired word of God to man. The scriptures are inerrant, infallible, God-breathed, and therefore the final authority for faith and life. The Holy Spirit gives divine understanding to all scripture and they are profitable for doctrine (teaching), reproof, correction, and for training in righteousness (II Timothy 3:15-17, Hebrews 1:1-2, II Peter 1:20-21, I Peter 1:23-25, Romans 16:25-26, I Corinthians 2:10-16, John 6:63)

We believe in one God who eternally exists in three persons - Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Each of them are coeternal in power and glory and have the same attributes and perfection (Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 28:19, II Corinthians 13:14, John 14:10-26, Genesis 1:26, II Corinthians 3:17, Isaiah 9:6, Hebrews 3:7-11, Ephesians 4:6, Acts 5:3-4).

We believe there is only one true God and there is only one way to Him and that is through His Son Jesus the Messiah. The Father has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existing “I AM.” He has further revealed Himself to mankind as being One God but three distinct persons in One. He is the creator of heaven, earth, and mankind. He sent His son Jesus who was with Him from the beginning as the once-for-all perfect sacrifice to redeem all creation, including mankind (Genesis 1:1, Genesis 1:26-27, Exodus 20:1-6, Exodus 3:14-15, Isaiah 43:10-14, John 1:1, John 8:58, John 3:16-21, Matthew 28:19)

The Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. The Scriptures declare His virgin birth (Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:31; Luke 1:35), His sinless life (Hebrews 7:26; 1 Peter 2:22), His miracles (Acts 2:22; Acts 10:38), His substitutionary work on the cross (1 Corinthians 15:3; 2 Corinthians 5:21), His bodily resurrection from the dead (Matthew 28:6; Luke 24:39; 1 Corinthians 15:4), His exaltation to the right hand of God (Acts 1:9; Acts 1:11; Acts 2:33; Philippians 2:9-11; Hebrews 1:3).

Man was created good and upright, for God said “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” But man, by voluntary transgression, fell, and his only hope of redemption is in Jesus Christ the Son of God (Genesis 1:26-31: 3:1-7; Romans 5:12-21).

Man’s only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ the Son of God. Salvation is received through repentance toward God and faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ. By the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, being justified by grace through faith, man becomes an heir of God, according to the hope of eternal life (Luke 24:47; John 3:3; Romans 10:13-15; Ephesians 2:8; Titus 2:11; Titus 3:5-7). The inward evidence of salvation is the direct witness of the Spirit (Romans 8:16). The outward evidence to all men is a life of righteousness and true holiness (Ephesians 4:24; Titus 2:12)

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead and the Spirit of truth who proceeds from God The Father. He is co-equal, co-eternal and co-existent with the Father and with the Son.The Holy Spirit testifies of Jesus and reveals Jesus the Son to mankind. He teaches us all things and leads us into all the truth. He brings to our remembrance all things Jesus spoke. He convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgement.

His ministry upon the earth is to convict and convert man as well as be the great paraclete (comforter, counselor, helper, intercessor, advocate, strengthener and standby) to the Church. The baptism of the Holy Spirit and Fire is a gift from God as promised by the Lord Jesus to all believers and is received subsequent to and is distinct from the experience of New Birth. With it comes the enduement of power for life and service, the bestowment of the gifts and their uses in the work of the ministry (Luke 24:29; Acts 1:4; 1:8; 1 Corinthians 12:1-31). The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is meant to empower the believer to be a witness of Jesus Christ by the preaching and demonstration of the Gospel. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are also evidence of this experience. Whereas there is one initial baptism, there are many subsequent infillings of the Spirit. The ultimate purpose of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is so that we, the believers, may have power to be witnesses (Genesis 1:2, Matthew 3:11, John 14:16-17, John 14:26, John 16:5-15, Acts 1:8, Acts 2, 2 Corinthians 3:17).

We believe that Jesus Christ Himself established and builds the church universal, composed of all born-again believers in every time and place, of every tribe, tongue, people, and nation. The universal church is His body and espoused bride, a new and holy nation and people, through which God has purposed to glorify Himself in the world (Matthew 16:18 and 21:42-43, Revelation 5:9-10, I Corinthians 12:12-14, II Corinthians 11:2, Ephesians 1:22-23, 2:13-22, 3:20-21, 4:4-6, and 5:25-32, I Peter 2:4-10, Revelation 21:1-4).

We believe that Christ also ordained the local church as an expression of His universal church in a particular place (Matthew 18:15-18).

We believe that the establishment and continuance of local churches is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament Scriptures (Acts 14:27, 20:17, and 27-32, I Timothy 3:1-13, Titus 1:5-11).

We believe in the autonomy of the local church free of any external human authority or control (Acts 13:1-4 and 15:19-31, Romans 16:1 and 4, I Corinthians 3:9, 16, 5:4-7, and 13, I Peter 5:1-4).

We believe that upon Christ’s ascension He gave five ministries to the Church for her instruction, and total equipping for the service and ministry of Christ’s gospel. There are Apostles, Prophets, Pastors, Teachers, and Evangelists. All of these ministries are the direct outworking of who Christ was in His ministry upon the Earth and therefore, City Gate Revival Center welcomes and acknowledges these ministries in their fullness and authority. (Ephesians 2:19-22 and 4:10-12, I Corinthians 3:10 and 12:28).

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Head of the Church, established two ordinances for the Church to follow: Water Baptism and Communion. Baptism in water, by full immersion, is a direct commandment of our Lord. It is for all believers. This holy sacrament identifies the believer with Jesus in His death, burial, and resurrection (Matthew 28:19; Acts 10:47-48; Romans 6:4; Acts 20:21; Hebrews 10:22).

We believe the ordinance of Communion is also a commandment of the Lord Jesus that must be received consistently until His return. The communion sacrament was bestowed upon and instructed to all believers, which consists of the bread and the cup. The bread – His body, which was broken for us. The cup – His blood that was shed for us. Both elements are witnesses of the New Covenant believers now enjoy while prophetically declaring His soon return (Luke 22:19-20, John 6:48, John 6:53-58, 2 Peter 1:4; 1 Corinthians 11:23-32)

We believe the scripture teaches that without holiness no man can see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14). We believe that sanctification is the ongoing process  of being set apart for God.  This is characterized by yielding to Him so He may complete the process of Christlikeness in us. A lifestyle of developing righteousness and holiness is the evidence to all men that Christ’s Spirit abides in us (I Thessalonians 4:3 and 5:23, 1 Corinthians 1:30 and 6:14-20, 2 Corinthians 3:18 and 6:14-18, Romans 8:29, Philippians 3:12-14, Hebrews 2:11-15)

We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God, but that in Adam’s sin, the human race fell, inherited a sinful nature and became alienated from God. Fallen man is totally depraved, and of himself, utterly unable to remedy his lost condition. This sin causes a separation from God and therefore a need for a Savior. God by His great love provided this Savior in His Son, Jesus Christ. Through the sacrifice of Christ Jesus on a cross and the shedding of innocent blood, we may enter into fellowship with the Father. Through this redemption we have a restored relationship with God as was intended from creation (Genesis 1:26-27, Romans 3:25, 5:12, and 6:23, Ephesians 2:1-3 and 4:17-19, Isaiah 59:2, I John 1:7-9, Hebrews 9:14 and 13:12).

We believe that without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins. God has always required a sacrifice for man’s sin, and in His love and desire to make a more perfect way, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ. The Son of God, Jesus Christ lived a perfect sinless life. Hs blood that was shed on the cross is the only sacrifice sufficient to cleanse us from our sins. When we appropriate this blood sacrifice through faith that is expressed in Christ Jesus and the repentance of our sins that have separated us from a Holy God, we are freed from the penalty of eternal punishment (John 1:29, Romans 3:10-12 and 5:9, Colossians 1:20, Hebrews 4:15, 7:27 and 9:22, 1 John 1:7, Revelation 1:5 and 5:9).

We believe there is an eternal judgement and that eternal judgment is an elementary principle (teaching) of the Christ (Hebrews 6:1-2). There will be a final judgment in which the wicked dead will be raised and judged according to their works. Whosoever is not found written in the Book of Life, together with the devil and his angels, the beast and the false prophet, will be consigned to everlasting punishment in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death (Revelation 19:20; Revelation 20:10-15).

We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, and pornography are a sinful perversion of God’s gift of sex (Genesis 2:24, 19:5, and 26:8-9, Leviticus 18:1-30, Romans 1:26-29, I Corinthians 5:1 and 6:9, I Thesselonians 4:1-8, Hebrews 13:4).

We believe that the only legitimate marriage is joining of one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:5, Romans 7:2, 1 Corinthians 7:10, Ephesians 5:22-23, 31).

We will not perform any marriages that are same sex, plural, or involve anything other than one man and one woman.
